I am currently doing major upgrade on AntonyPranata.com. You will find experience of my web site and blogs in the next couple of days. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Here is the summary of the upgrades that I am currently doing:

• Move my web hosting to a better company, which provides more space, more bandwidth and better spam filtering.
• Move all the static contents to CMS. I’ll be using Joomla as the engine.
• For the blog engine, I’ll still be using WordPress. However, I would need to change the theme because of the second change above.

It was started as a hobby project. I love programming so much. During Web 1.0 booming, I started to create a web site, called Antony’s Download Center (ADC), where people can download my applications. It is where the name ADC-Soft came from. My first web site was hosted on Geocities.com. For those who don’t know, Geocities.com was one of the first free Web hosting services. Later on, they are acquired by Yahoo!

My first web site was alive on my 23rd birthday, which is September 19, 1998. Since then, I have been selling thousand of puzzle games. I signed a contract with a Japanese company to translate and redistribute one of my games too. One thing that I can be proud of, I was able to pursue M.Sc. degree in Germany with the money from my own business.

After being around for almost 9 years, I decided to kill ADC-Soft. It’s a bad news, indeed. Unfortunately, I have to do it. I have limited time to do further development and support. What’s next? I am planning to start another business in the mobile industry. The plan is to have everything ready on my 32nd birthday this year.

I have asked my admin whether we can just upgrade MySQL. Apparently, it is not that easy. I don’t know the exact reason but I guess because I am using shared web hosting. Imagine if my admin upgraded MySQL server then suddenly web sites from other people stop working.

That’s why, the admin suggested me to move to a new server that supports the new MySQL. I have tried my best so that the migration goes smoothly. My DNS has been updated a couple of hours ago and it seems everything works fine. If you find something is wrong with my site/blog, feel free to leave your comments here.

For some reasons, some of my “old” postings appear as “new” postings in some RSS reader.

So, I am so sorry if some of you received “old stuff” from my blog.

Most of them are already obsolete because they are posted more than 1/2 year ago.

Before you employ a domain name service to get started with domain name registration, check if the deal is alright with wordpress. Not every cheap web hosting company is good without dsl. These matters should be taken care of before web development starts.

I have postponed my plan to upgrade to this new release several times. Why? Firstly, because I have been very busy these days. Secondly, I was afraid that something goes wrong when upgrading the server. I don’t want my blogs to go down, even for several hours only.

OK. Friday evening around 10:00 pm… two hours before weekend… I downloaded WordPress 2.0.3, extracted the package and then read the instructions. Wow, there are five steps only. I said to myself, “It should be peanut” (read: easy).

Oh yes… I forgot to mention that I am actually not an experienced webmaster. I know a little bit about XHTML, CSS and PHP, but not at the advanced level. So when I say “very easy”, it should apply to most of us too.

Back to the upgrading process, I followed the instructions step by step….. and…. 10 minutes later…. my first blog server has been upgraded to WordPress 2.0.3! I still have three other blog servers though. Anyway, isn’t it amazing? Only in 10 minutes!

I have to thank to the development team of WordPress. You have done a great job guys!!! Excellent!!!
