I Need a Doctor!!!
Life July 18th. 2006, 5:56pmToday, I was looking for a doctor because I had a problem with my leg’s skin. I asked my friends for recommendation of some “good” doctors in my area (Richmond, British Columbia).
OK… I got five names and started to call them to make an appointment. Guess what… at the end of the day, none of the doctors is willing to accept me as their patient. Here is the conversation that I had with the doctor’s assistants:
Antony: Hello, my name is Antony Pranata. I would like to make an appointment with Dr. X.
Assistant: Have you been here before?
Antony: No, I haven’t.
Assistant: Oh sorry, we don’t accept a new patient. Why don’t you go to your own doctor?
Antony: I am still new to this country, so I don’t have my own doctor yet.
Assistant: I am so sorry. We cannot accept a new patient any more.
Antony: Do you have recommendation another doctor who still accept a new patient then?
Assistant: Sorry, I don’t know.
What should I do? Can’t they just accept a new immigrant as their new patient?
O, Canada… I am so tired with this country… ![]()

[...] Three weeks ago, I was looking for a doctor because I have a problem with my leg’s skin. Finally I found a doctor who wants to diagnose me (other doctors were simply too busy and didn’t want to accept me as their patient). I went to the doctor and he gave me antibiotic. After using it for about 1 week, my leg was not going better at all. [...]

[...] I hope that one of the Canadian doctors, especially the ones from British Columbia, read this blog. Just for your information, many of good doctors here are not willing to accept new patients. We, as new immigrants, have difficulties finding good doctors. My problem is getting worse because I couldn’t find a good doctor in the last 4 weeks! Besides that, the lab need more than 1 week to send the result of their diagnosis (can’t they do it within 24 hours instead?) [...]
